Welcome😊🖍️
Last week, we celebrated the children; now it’s time to celebrate the people who make those learning experiences possible.
Teacher Appreciation Week is right around the corner (May 4–8), and while it may seem like a simple moment on the calendar, it’s actually one of the most powerful opportunities you have as a leader.
Your teachers are doing deeply meaningful, emotionally demanding, and incredibly important work every single day. They are nurturing first relationships, building foundational skills, and shaping how children see themselves and the world.
This week is your chance to intentionally pause and say:
We see you. We value you. You matter.

Why Teacher Appreciation Week Matters!
Teacher Appreciation Week isn’t just about treats or decorations; it’s about recognition that sticks.
When done well, it…
Reinforces a culture of respect and gratitude🧘🏽
Strengthens staff morale and connection🔗
Reminds teachers of their purpose during a demanding time of year✏️
Increased retention by helping staff feel seen and supported👏🏽
In a profession where burnout can happen quickly, small, meaningful moments of appreciation can make a lasting impact.

Who Should Be Involved? (Hint: Everyone)
The most meaningful celebrations are not done for teachers; they are created around them, with input and participation from the entire community.
Children🚸
Even the youngest learners can be part of the celebration.
Handprint art, simple drawings, or dictated messages
Classroom songs or “thank you” moments
These gestures are often the most meaningful because they reflect the heart of the work.Click here for ways to involve the children in the celebration of their teachers
Families👨🏾👩🏼👧🏽👦🏼
Families are powerful partners in appreciation.
Invite them to write notes, emails, or short messages
Provide simple prompts to make it easy (“What do you appreciate most about your child’s teacher?”)
When appreciation comes from families, it reinforces purpose in a unique and lasting way.
Community🏡
Local connections can help elevate the experience.
Partner with local businesses for small donations or treats
Invite community members to share appreciation messages
This shows teachers their impact extends beyond the classroom.
Leaders🦸🏽
Your role matters most.
Be visible and intentional in your appreciation
Personalize recognition, specific, genuine feedback goes further than generic praise
Celebrating not just outcomes, but effort, growth, and heart

Making It Meaningful (Not Just “More”)💗
As an Early Childhood Leader, it is easy to feel pressure to “do a lot,” but what matters most is being thoughtful and authentic.
Consider:
Celebrating small wins🏆, you’ve noticed throughout the year
Connecting appreciation back to your center’s core values♥️
Creating moments of reflection🪞, not just recognition
A simple, sincere message can have more impact than an elaborate plan without intention. Teacher Appreciation Week is not a one-time event; it’s a mirror of your everyday leadership.
The goal isn’t just to celebrate for a week…
It’s to build a culture where appreciation is felt all year long.
Use this week as a starting point, or a reset, to ask:
“Do my teachers feel valued here, every day?”
Teacher Appreciation Week is your moment to lead with intention. Not through big gestures alone, but through meaningful ones; specific words, genuine actions, and moments that remind your teachers why their work matters. Because when teachers feel truly seen and valued, they don’t just stay… they thrive. And when they thrive, so do the children, the families, and the culture you are building.
Till Next Time,
