Starting 2025 with Positive Intentions to Lead a Great Childcare Program

Early childhood leaders need to reignite their passion too...

Happy New Year🎉📋

As we step into 2025, it’s easy to feel the weight of the responsibilities that come with leading a childcare program. Some days are filled with frustration, while others bring a renewed sense of purpose. It’s natural to have mixed emotions as we begin this new year, but many of us are eager to start it off with a positive mindset. For those seeking ways to reignite their passion, here are some reflections and suggestions to help you lead with intention and enthusiasm.

A Moment of Reflection

The other day, as I was organizing my office to kick off the new year, I stumbled upon a picture that made me smile. It reminded me of the excitement I once felt when I first entered this amazing profession. As I reflected on my journey, I realized how crucial it is to continuously reignite the passion we have for leading, especially in early childhood education.

We are role models for the children we serve and the educators we work with. Our energy and mindset influence the entire team. As leaders, it’s essential to reignite that spark within ourselves and share that positive energy with others.

6 Ways to Reignite Your Passion for Leading Your Team in 2025

1. Lead by Example
As a leader, you set the tone. Consistently model the behaviors and attitudes you want to see in your teachers. Be transparent about your own learning journey, including the ups and downs. When you embrace challenges with a growth mindset, it encourages your team to do the same. Demonstrate your enthusiasm for the work through your actions, words, and interactions with the staff.

2. Create a Supportive and Safe Environment
Establish a culture of trust where teachers feel safe to share their thoughts, ask questions, and seek guidance. Regular check-ins—whether formal or informal—allow you to understand their challenges and aspirations. When teachers know they are supported, it helps them feel secure and valued. This creates a nurturing atmosphere in which they can thrive.

3. Lead with Enthusiasm
Your energy is infectious! When you approach each day with passion and excitement, it sets the tone for everyone around you. Bring enthusiasm to staff meetings, casual interactions, and even emails. Your positive energy reminds everyone of the joy and importance of the work they’re doing.

4. Incorporate Vision Boards & Visual Reminders
Sometimes, seeing is believing. Create vision boards or display pictures of teachers in their element—engaged with children, collaborating with colleagues, or celebrating small wins. This helps remind everyone of their purpose and the positive impact they’re making. Adding music to the space, especially upbeat tunes in the lobby or during transitions, can also inject some energy and boost the mood of your team.

5. Encourage Curiosity and Innovation
Make it a point to create an environment where creativity and curiosity are encouraged. Allow your team the freedom to explore new teaching techniques, ask questions, and experiment with fresh ideas. When educators feel empowered to innovate, they not only grow professionally but also reignite their own passion for the work.

6. Celebrate Achievements, Big and Small
Celebrate successes, both big and small. Whether it’s a teacher implementing a new strategy or a child mastering a new skill, recognizing these accomplishments fosters a sense of pride and motivation in your team. It’s these moments of recognition that can help reignite passion and enthusiasm for the work.

As we step into the new year, it’s time to reignite our passion for leading early childhood educators. By leading with intention, enthusiasm, and support, we can inspire our teams to do their best work and continue to create nurturing, enriching environments for the children in our care. Together, let’s embrace the challenges and opportunities 2025 brings, with the energy and mindset to lead with purpose and joy.

Till Next Time,
