Make Your Day Flow

Communication impacts the day to day operations...

Grow. Empower. Elevate.

Welcome back šŸ˜Š

This week I have been taking time for one-on-one conversations with employees.

A common theme that was coming up was lack of communication, which is not allowing them to be successful at their job.

So, letā€™s talk about Communication!

Have you ever done staff surveys where the common feedback is; I never know what is happening or I didnā€™t know that applied to me?

Not having an effective way to communicate can lead to frustration, misunderstandings, and conflict and in the end cause employees to leave.

Creating an effective and consistent communication process will allow employees to be more productive, feel less stressed, and to enjoy their work instead of trying to figure out what information they are missing and feeling unsuccessful.

Top 3 things to think about when communicating informationšŸ¤”šŸ¤”

Be clear and to the point! Let your employees know the why, how, and when.

Who needs to know this knowledge? There are times when only certain employees need to have this knowledge to be successful and other times when everyone needs to know.

How will you communicate? The key to successful communication is communicating the same way consistently. When I have a new employee start, I go over how we communicate and make sure they have access to each method.

Here are a few of methods that I use for communication:

Weekly Memos- A great way to communicate a unified message to all employees! This will set up the week for successšŸ’ŖI usually post this in the staff lounge, and on our center communication app.  In this method I will put important dates coming up such as: staff meeting, center events, birthdays, tours that are schedules, new hires start date, employees that are scheduled out, who will be covering and other housekeeping notes.

Face to face ā€“ I use this method of immediate changes that may be happening in the building that are unexpected.

Sticky notes- These are my best friend (lol) I use these to communicate about childrenā€™s schedules changing for the day if it is last minute and place it on the classroom roster.  This is also a great way to communicate employee lunch breaks or planning times if they change daily.

Small text groupsšŸ“² This is done when messages are only needed to communicate to a few people. I use this method of communication for my morning openers, usually to communicate if there is a call out and how we will cover the classrooms.

As leaders, we need to think ahead about what the next hour, day, week might look like, but we also need to be sure we are communicating our thoughts of when, why, and how to have a successful center.

Till next time,

Jen
