Welcome😊 🖍️
As we move through March, momentum builds, marking the start of one of the busiest and most important seasons in our early childhood programs as the school year ends and summer begins. As a leader, this is your time to think ahead and plan with intention.
From summer camp and Week of the Young Child, to Teacher Appreciation, Pre-K graduation, and family celebrations like Mother’s and Father’s Day, our calendar fills quickly. Without a clear plan and strong communication, it can feel overwhelming. But with the right vision in place now, you can create a summer program that families don’t just enroll in, they talk about, share, and recommend throughout your community.
This week, I encourage you to begin planning your summer camp program with clear intention. However, don’t do it alone; strong leaders build strong teams. Delegate, involve your teachers, and give them ownership in the process. This not only develops their leadership skills but also creates a more engaged team and a stronger, more successful summer program.

Before You Promote…Pause⏸️
Before you market your summer program…
Before you hire your summer team…
You need something worth saying “yes” to.
A strong summer camp program isn’t built on luck; it’s built on experience, excitement, and intentional planning.

Start with the Big Picture🖼️
Ask yourself: What do I want children to feel this summer?

Connected🔗
Confident😁
Your answer should guide everything you plan.
✍🏼Leadership takeaway: Bring your team into this conversation. Schedule a brainstorming session and gather input; shared vision leads to stronger execution.

Create Engaging Weekly Themes🎭
Themes bring your summer to life. They give teachers directions and children something to look forward to.
Think…🤔
“Under the Sea”🐳
“Messy Science Week”🧪
“Camping Adventures”⛺
“Around the World”🗼
The key is to make them immersive, not just decorative. Here are 10 fun themes!
Think beyond bulletin boards: What will children do? What will they experience? What stories will they share at home?
✍🏼Leadership Takeaway: Invite your teachers to vote on and help design themes. When teachers feel ownership, engagement and follow-through increase.

From Vision to Reality⏩
Once your vision is clear, everything else becomes easier.
You can confidently build:
Engaging weekly themes🍏
Meaningful, hands-on experiences🔭
Intentional learning opportunities📝
Instead of scrambling for ideas, you are leading with clarity and purpose.
✍🏼Leadership Takeaway: Create a simple planning timeline now: map out themes, field trips, visitors, activities, supplies needed, staffing needs, and key events before April ends.

The leaders who remain calm in June are those who planned in March. Start now. Stay focused. Lead forward. Your future self and your team will appreciate it.
As you move forward, keep in mind that the magic of summer is created in the moments you intentionally design today. When you bring your team together, encourage ideas, and lead with purpose, you’re not just planning activities; you are creating memories that children will carry with them, and families will cherish. Trust the process, and build something truly unforgettable.
Till Next time,
